Whoa! Surprised by this one!

Well, this Sunday evening’s family dinner and football time (no dominoes tonight) came with a big shocker.  PawPaw really took the plunge and bought himself a new ride!  Gas prices have gotten so bad lately that owning a big one-ton diesel dually truck isn’t very cost-effective, so he’s been contemplating making changes for quite a while.  Granted, he still needs his big work truck and can’t let it go, but what to do for quick errands and local trips around town?  Enter this little beauty, which is the first time he’s owned a motorcycle since he married mom all those decades ago.  <chuckling>  Congrats!  She’s a beauty!

Gwen’s Allergies

September 12, 2008 By: Misty Category: BlahBlahBlah No Comments →

Here’s the latest list of true allergies (different from intolerances) in order of most to least:

Casein 18.9 Very High
Cat 13.5 High
Milk 11.2 High
Dog 7.44 High
Peanut 5.69 High
Egg White 2.47 Moderate
Hazelnut 1.19 Moderate
Almond 1.04 Moderate
Egg yolk 0.97 Moderate
Brazilnut 0.65 Low
Oat 0.43 Low

The good news is she’s not allergic to dust mites, wheat, rhy, barley, corn, rice, pea, soybean, tomato, carrot, apple, gluten, pecan (woo hoo), peach or banana.  Yay!  The bad news is that all these are subject to change and probably will over time.  And we also don’t get any testing on intolerances, which can look the same as allergies, but don’t react the same in your bloodwork.  Basically, Gwen’s going to keep us on our toes for a while.  But that’s what makes her a great last child!

Food Allergy Walk

September 07, 2008 By: Misty Category: News No Comments →

I’ve never participated in a walk for a cause before, but there’s a first time for everything.  Because who wouldn’t want to find a cure for what ails baby Gwen?  It’s a two-mile walk on November 8th.  I think it will be a fun Girls’ morning out for us.  Our team name is McTexUs and our goal is to raise $300 for the cause.

Happy Birthdays Richard, Christy, & Todd

September 01, 2008 By: Misty Category: BlahBlahBlah 2 Comments →

September has a busy first week with 3 family birthdays.  We got to see everyone except Frazier today to celebrate Richard’s birthday.  They tell me Frazier’s new print shop is very nice.  And something about how Taelor wasn’t awake yet at noon on Sunday when Lincoln called her.   Wow, I barely remember those good old days.  <chuckling>  At any rate, happy birthday to all the September babies!  We’re eating at Catfish Cove for Todd’s birthday on Sunday.  It’s not our usual Big Shuck’s dinner, but more family members can participate this way.

Megan-you’ve never been there because they don’t do crab legs.  Their fried shrimp is really good, though.  Thanks for the update early this morning.  We hope your insomnia gets better soon.  I haven’t told you about the horrible dreams I used to have when I was a checker, too.  I’d be scanning groceries in my sleep all hours of the night and I thought my alarm clock was the register’s read out.  It was hard in those days, but now I can just look back and laugh. I still dream about work from time to time, but when I do, it’s my subconscious dwelling on something critical it thinks I’m going to forget.
