Stuff and Things

It seems like just the other day we were celebrating and doing the school’s out happy dance of joy.  Now we’re *already* back to school again.  Foo!  Mikayla’s new teacher is wonderful.  Her daughter was in Mikayla’s kindergarten class last year. Here’s a quick picture.  On a related note, uniform dress codes ROCK THE HOUSE!

Just a quick update that today Gwen stood up all by herself for the very first time this evening! One of big sister’s toys was being moved *just* out of her reach on the coffee table as she knelt and reached with all her might, so she must have thought “I’ll just show you Mom!” She stood her back legs right on up and grabbed that toy and quickly moved on to what else might be up there.

And in other fun news, good old Dad had an idea that Gwen might like swinging along side Mikayla on the swingset in the back yard, so now we have this fun sight! I still think we’ll be taking our morning walks down to the park on the weekends for the bigger, more fun playground… but the improved swingset in the backyard will be very handy to have.  Dad just wants to add a little steering wheel for Gwen to hold as she flies through the air.

We took a great leap today and cut Mikayla’s hair into a medium length bob.  David did a great job with the cut: she looks adorable.  Her hair hasn’t been this short since she was about 1 1/2 years old!

Just a quick Yay to Megan on your new job at Hyvee (grocery store). I was a checker back in the summer before my senior year, too! Remember your mystery shopping skills you learned as 572C and you’ll always have happy customers. We’re very proud! And we’ll have to talk about cash handling skills sometime soon. The most reliable method for testing currency for counterfeit is the “scratch test”.  :-)  Although who actually pays for their groceries with cash anymore?

I’m pleased to report that we’ve found the source of Gwen’s allergy problems: corn syrup.  Turns out she’s got a mild (non-life threatening) allergy to corn syrup and the main ingredient in all those baby formulas (even the soy formula) is corn syrup solids.  We took her off formula and switched to soy milk, with a wonderful result of baby smooth skin and no daily Zyrtec!  Hooray!  We’ll get confirmation of all the suspected items and any updates on the known allergens in just 2 more months, but corn and milk are going to be awfully hard to avoid!
